Course description:
My intention for these 3 days is for you to connect with your touch and integrate your touch with your clients Nervous system in a safe non-threatening approach.
- Build your mental map of the nervous, arterial and muscular system along with ligaments including the basic layout of each network in the torso, pelvis, legs, shoulder girdle, neck, arms and head.
- Distinguish peripheral nerves and arteries, from their surrounding tissue with your touch.
- Identify through body reading/vision, active movement and Gait Analysis, where there might be limitations contributing to postural problems and functional limitations.
- Assess through functional testing and palpation which structures are limited in movement.
- Pain Education and correct language/words to use with your clients.
- Client interaction from the first phone call, treatment and post treatment
- Confidence building for you as a therapist.
- We don’t fix or cure anybody!
- Designing your history questionnaire form, for your practice
- How to become a “detective” and read the clients history form and filter this into what/where might be causing them pain/discomfort.
- Do we actually know what is going on with our clients?
- If a client gets worse or better after their treatment, is that because of us as therapist?
- We are stimulus providers!
- Can we touch muscles, bone, and ligaments or is it only Skin?
- What can we palpate?
- How important is our touch to clients?
- Why pushing hard and hurting clients is not the correct way to treat
- Why techniques are only an approach to treatments and not the “fix”
- My clients like deep tissue, how can I introduce this type of approach into my practice?
- How much do you charge? Are you under charging?
- Are you ready to be challenged with your self-beliefs? If not why?
Content that will be introduced to you over the 3 days
- Nerve/skin approach
- Artery approach
- Ligament approach
- Bone approach
- A small introduction into Cranial approach
- A small introduction into Manual muscle testing
- Polarity
- Static body assessment
- Active body assessment
- Gait Assessment
- Bringing it all to together for treatment
I call all of this “Integrated Touch”.
You will see and feel immediate results from the work we do in class. When you take these skills into your practice, and you keep the neural and vascular networks in mind as you do your myofascial work, you will be able to work with greater efficiency and better results for your clients. With the approaches and strategies that I teach will also help you to address symptoms (often upstream or downstream from the area of pain) while you attend to the structure as a whole.
“Techniques” taught would combine an approach to reducing strain, tension in structures to improve neural glide and extensibility. Nerves can develop what is called “tunnel syndrome” or I call “grumpy nerves” and can be mistaken for “trigger points”. This workshop will help you get a great sense of these Grumpy nerves and work with them and the clients Nervous System.
On a daily basis I have clients visit me with chronic pain and I find once you calm down what I call “grumpy nerves” the clients pain eases or sometimes goes immediately. Integrated touch is a powerful “tool” to have in your toolbox. We have roughly 72 KM of nerves in our body and roughly 15,000 nerve endings per sq inch its time to start working with them rather than going hard and heavy along with exhausting yourself.
This workshop is complementary to other courses and work you are continually doing in your practice. Over the 3 days it is 90% hands on and 10% theory and good fun!
Schedule for the 3 days – Start a 9 am and finish at 530, lunch and tea break.
- Day 1 – Lower body and pelvis
- Day 2 – Ribcage and arms
- Day 3 – Spine, neck & head
A manual with all the approaches and some bonus ones that I may not get to show in class will be provided each day. We also have a closed forum on facebook to ask questions and share ideas, articles etc.
